I DON’T THINK ANYBODY EVER ASKED ME

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.” by Judy Blume.

Today I pray, “Dear God, Sometimes I feel this way. And yet I think I can safely say that We have an assured relationship. There are zero doubts. It’s all faith, all the time. And I love You. Amen.”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to reveal this passage:

“I lived in New York for eleven and a half years and I don’t think anybody ever asked me about my religion. I never even thought about it. Now, all of a sudden, it was the big thing in my life.”
—JUDY BLUME

It amazes me sometimes how little we might really know about those who are closest to us. And not necessarily because they haven’t taken the time and energy to open up to us, rather, because we have not taken the time and energy to open up to them through questions. What’s important to you? What do you want? What do you not want? What brings you joy? What is your dream for living your life powerfully and living a life you love? And so on…. When we honor humanity by getting over in another person’s world and asking them to tell us what is important to them, we open up worlds of difference for each of these relationships. This is an important first choice. Then the rest is simple.
