Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the children’s book ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ by Sarah Josepha Hale.
Today I pray, “Dear God, Thank You for being the Lamb of the World. What are Your words to mothers today? Amen.”
Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened the book to the following passage:
“He followed her to school one day. It was against the rule.”
—SARAH JOSEPHA HALE
I immediately think of Jesus traveling with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem as a 12-year-old boy. He entered a temple and sat with the teachers, listening and asking questions. When Mary and Joseph realized their little boy was no longer in their company, they might have grown concerned about his whereabouts, as any parent would. But Jesus was right where he belonged: Becoming ready to begin his life purpose. Mothers know this day will come for their own children. It is a difficult moment, allowing a child to go out into the world and do what they came here to do. This rite of passage makes every faithful mother a saint, and every child sent forward with blessings, a tribute.
