I consider myself a rebel, rebel rouser, if you will. Nobody else would view me this way, yet this is how I view myself. I moved to New York City at age 25 (2002)… just because I’d always wanted to live there. I performed songs I had written at a little club in the city in front of an audience of about 100 people. Here are the lyrics to one of those songs. It’s called Bohemia.
BOHEMIA
(VERSE 1)
They stand on sidewalks like curbside criminals. Pass a buck, take a buck, shake a buck. What they won’t give to make a buck. Identity unknown. Artist, subliminal. Why do we treat their talents just like the Village villain? They won’t ditch Greenwich s’soon as they’re rich. There is no con or campaign pitch. Bohemia is simply their niche. They wanna be Bob Dylan
(CHORUS)
Less is more
Though the bank says they are poor
Let’s come together to settle the score
Their hearts are filled with art and that’s a start to making the most out of life.
(VERSE 2)
Some may say their lives are good plans gone awry. They’ve opted out of the common life. Two-door garage, kids, husband and wife. Morning commute and nine to five. The only question, “Why?”
There are so many other roads they could have run. So they took this one at the fork. Now what they love they call their work. They’re making music in New York and having so much fun.
(CHORUS)
Less is more
Though the bank says they are poor
Let’s come together to settle the score
Their hearts are filled with art and that’s a start to making the most out of life.
(BRIDGE)
Cookie cutter houses and a 401k. Not everyone hopes that life will turn out that way. Cookie cutter houses and a 401k. Not everyone hopes that life will turn out that way, turn out that way, turn turn turn turn turn turn. Turn turn turn.
(VERSE 3)
I make more than he does. He makes more than she does. She makes more than they do, but they make more than we do. ‘Cause their hearts are filled with art. Their hearts are filled with art. Their hearts are filled with art ‘cause that’s a start to making the most, making the most, making the most, making the most out of life.
