CONNECTION TO THE COLLECTIVE

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.

Today I pray, “Dear God, How do we create a connection to the collective? Amen.”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to reveal this passage:

“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mocking bird.”
—HARPER LEE

Ah, we sing the songs of our truest open hearts. We make eye contact. We say “Good morning”, “Good afternoon”, and “Good evening”. Or “Hi”, “Hey”, and “Hello”. We smile. We offer assistance for the sake of authentic service born of an authentic desire. We ask questions. We care to hear the answers. And we listen.
