IN A NEW YORK MINUTE

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book ’59 Seconds. Think a Little. Change A Lot’ by Richard Wiseman.

Today I pray, “Dear God, ‘In a New York Minute, everything can change.’ Today I pray for New York City. I pray that the city and its residents and visitors are protected and held safe in Your Loving comfort. Amen.”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to this passage on page 60:

“Remember to Mention Your Pet Frog.”
—RICHARD WISEMAN

Humor, in case you have not read the surrounding context of this portion of the book, is the insight here. And I love the protection of New York City that happens within the lightness of humor. This can best be evidenced in NYC’s late night TV shows. This includes Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As “brevity is the soul of wit,” levity is the soul of New York. No matter what happens in New York City in the upcoming months, it will be humor to which we will return in the speedy recovery of our spirits.
