Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book ‘Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff’ by Richard Carlson, PH.D.
Today I pray, “Dear God, Happy New Year! I am ready for this new year! I am ready to spend it with You, and here in the world among people. What is your blessing for 2016? Amen.”
Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to this passage:
“Try to maintain the perspective that, in time, everything disintegrates and returns to its initial form.”
Sheer veracity is from where we have arrived, and to where we will return. Everything in between is beside us, not within us.
The true story, the first course, is that we are here as we have always been. Not to color in the details. The details meet us in our colorful glory — inviting our curiosity, consuming our transcendence, and vanishing…like that.
How do we stay holy? In knowing that holiness is something that has always been here. When holiness replenishes joy, we play witness to initial form. There is no need for fear; I stated it last year and I honor this ideology again. The goodness will not forsake us, not abandon us, not do us any harm. Because “despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.”
