Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book ‘Life’s Little Instruction Book: On Things That Really Matter’ by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Today I pray, “Dear God, When I walk with my friend I feel so blessed to be in the presence of a human being who keeps me centered, makes me laugh out loud, and allows me to share a space of lasting legacy. Thank you for my cherished friend. Amen.”
Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to find this passage:
“If we discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all that we wanted to say, every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people to stammer that they loved them.”
Even though I will see him again, I would be stammering my love poem goodbye to him in our last moments in one another’s presence on earth. Love knows no boundaries. This extends to an eternity we cannot now comprehend. We, human beings, can comprehend love. Because we feel love, and can allow a capacity to feel love so deeply, may we also offer love to those who do not in any way seem to deserve it. This extension of love to our enemies is not to be granted in word or deed, as this would be a barren authenticity. This extension of love is first to be sought within, knowing it’s believability.
Once we believe that we are capable of love, we are then to go forth in thought. We must love our enemies in thought, as they are human beings in our presence on earth. And we must remember, we are in their presence as well. I will say it again, we are in their presence as well. As we all were brought to earth to learn, we are learning together. Good, evil, strong, weak, human. And may we be — together, present, connected, sharing, human.
