Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini.
Today I pray, “Dear God, What is a foundation of peace on earth, good will to all people?”
Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to page 297 to reveal the passage response:
“That is unavoidable.”
I really didn’t want to have to respond to this passage. I didn’t like it. I wanted to close the book and ignore it. This passage arrived as raw and annihilating as World War III. It was not presented by a pretty young lady donning a crown and sash, saluting us with a window-washing wave, speaking with a freshly completed at-home teeth whitening and a perky voice inflection: “My platform is world peace.” Peace on earth, if we cannot create it while we are here, will come about when we are all departed from earth.
When life on earth ends, there will be everlasting peace for all people. No more civilians; all at complete peace in Heaven. This is my least favorite topic. I purposely posed that question in my prayer as “a foundation,” not “the foundation.” Because peace on earth can be put in place by people. I don’t like to think about nuclear attacks, contagious viruses, or big bangs from outer space deployed to destroy human life. I don’t even want to go there. What really motivates me is the granted possibility of the Crystal Age. Children born in this decade and future decades are here to be the peace makers, the gentle earth healers, and the barometer of what must end if we are to survive.
What children in the Crystal Age are here to offer, we must respond to immediately. We will need to revisit very uncomfortable topics such as instituting prayer in school, dismantling seemingly favorable financial resources, and embarking upon extreme non-violent international diplomacy. And in regards to diplomacy, children might need to be the diplomats. Imagine Russian children, Chinese children, Israeli/Palestinian children, American children… thinking critically and Spiritually, and speaking and praying diplomatically on behalf of peace on earth. The flash in the pan is adults fighting fighting with fighting. Gandhi was succinct when he stated, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” An unavoidable foundation of peace on earth and good will to all people begins with a rebuilding effort on the civilian side that is beyond what we are attempting today.
