A GRACE-FILLED TO-DO

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the daybook ‘Grace for the Moment’ by Max Lucado.

Today I pray, “Dear God, sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough time in a day. Some days I could use twice the amount of time to catch up, sit back, and enjoy. I don’t know how to shake this feeling. I always seem to have a to-do list in my head — from the moment I awaken to the moment I fall asleep. Even my dreams become tasks to accomplish. Please give me grace for these moments of busy life. Amen.”

After my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to page 55 to the following passage:

“Jesus Understands.
Jesus knows how you feel. You’re under the gun at work? Jesus knows how you feel. You’ve got more to do than is humanly possible? So did he. People take more from you than they give? Jesus understands. Your teenagers won’t listen? Your students won’t try? Jesus knows how you feel.
You are precious to him. So precious that he became like you so that you would come to him.
When you struggle, he listens. When you yearn, he responds. When you question, he hears. He has been there.”
—MAX LUCADO
IN THE EYE OF THE STORM

This passage response is so special to me. There are seldom moments when I turn to God in human form, Jesus. Yet isn’t it a comfort to have a perspective of God on earth, giving grace to every moment when we could really benefit from a nap, time to ourselves, or some sense of escape? When people are depleting my treasury of grace, God reminds us we are never indebted. Grace overflows. And as for our grace to ourselves for feeling annoyed? This becomes number one on our to-do lists. Check.
