Today’s Prayer to Passage will arrive from the lyrics of a song that I have been hearing once in a while when I have a certain radio station tuned in my car. Every time I hear this song, which has been about five times in the past year, I think “Who is this? I like it.” So today, having not yet read the lyrics, I will pray and look for insight within the song. It is titled ‘King and Cross’ by Icelandic artist Ásgeir. There is also a video of the song posted at the top and at the close of this entry.
And I pray, “Dear God, We know what we like when we see it and hear it. Even if we forget we’ve liked it before. How do we venture in the direction of what is fitting to us? With whom do we share our choices, artistic or otherwise, in life?”
Following my prayer, I found the lyrics to the song King and Cross online:
“Glistening nighttime dew, and she is walking with me.
From the house of red, I hear a child crying.
Foxes heading home, their prey hangs from their jaws.
And the forest knows, but it won’t share the secret. When the king takes sides,
Leaving moral minds; soldiers take their share.
Nighthawks seem to sense that now is the time.
Deep inside them burns the raging fire of life.
He’ll take back what he owns.Death cannot take hold, if I can keep momentum.
Fortresses of stone, turn into crystal tears
Soothed by southern winds; I’ve found my strength now.
And nobody knows, and we must keep their secret. When the king takes sides,
Leaving moral minds; soldiers take their share.
Nighthawks seem to sense that now is the time.
Deep inside them burns the raging fire of life.
He’ll take back what he owns. When the king takes sides,
Leaving moral minds; soldiers take their share.
Nighthawks seem to sense that now is the time.
Deep inside them burns the raging fire of life.
He’ll take back what he owns.”
—ÁSGEIR TRAUSTI
I like the lyrics as much as I like the music. After reading them, I sat in silence for a moment. Then I found an interview of Ásgeir, in which he stated that he wrote these lyrics with his father and had not originally intended to have this song on the album. In the eye of the beholder, I was able to see symbolism shown reflective of several of my previous Prayer to Passage posts. The beauty of poetry is that it can certainly have different meanings to different people and experiences. I will share what I have seen here, including for you the date and title of each post or personal reference relating to each symbolic insight:
“Glistening in nightime dew, and she is walking with me”
First, the word glistening was included in the lyrics to a song I wrote in 2001 titled ‘June and Gentle’. My lyrics were: “Glistening in the light of day; sparkling still in darkness. Beneath trees, beneath moon glow and twinkled comets.” This line from my song referred to Christ’s walk on earth, and equally, our personal walk with God. And so I immediately received this line, “Glistening in nightime dew, and she is walking with me,” as my walk of faith with God. Also, my 09.03.2015 Prayer to Passage post titled ‘Fresh and Vital’ refers to the Presence of God as dew clinging to grass.
“From the house of red I hear a child crying”
For me, this resonated with my 09.11.2015 Prayer to Passage post titled “I Heart NYC’. The “house of red” came to me as the image of crimson poppies in Heaven, our eternal home. And a child crying became a spirit from Heaven reborn to live again on earth, which refers to my first Prayer to Passage post, titled ‘The Biggest Audience,’ on 07.27.2015.
“Foxes heading home, their prey hangs from their jaws
And the forest knows but it won’t share the secret”
I immediately thought of my 09.11.2015 Prayer to Passage again. In this regard, the foxes represent all of those involved in the deaths and destruction of 9/11. And the forest represents cover-ups and scandal. This also brings to mind my Prayer to Passage post on 09.28.2015 titled ‘The Poisonous Church (Part 5),’ in which a man named Reed shares his thoughts about people who kill in the name of God. The forest here, representing the mystery of eternal life and what follows earthly death.
“When the king takes sides
leaving moral minds; soldiers take their share”
My first interpretation was that, to me, the king represents God. The king could also represent political leadership. Even the title of the song, King and Cross, signifies the world’s greatest leaders partnering with Christian aspects of grace, peace, and utilization of power for the least of these. “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” —Matthew 24:40 Moral minds: Those who manipulate and use the Bible as a weapon. Soldiers: Good soldiers of Christ.
“Nighthawks seem to sense that now is the time”
This reminds me of my 08.28.2015 Prayer to Passage post titled ‘The Season of Now,’ which illustrates that our past was now when it was present, as will our futures be. Nighthawks bring to mind something hidden and secretive, work behind the scenes while the majority sleeps. “Now is the time” also calls upon the idea that we live in a great era of change and possibility.
“Deep inside them burns the raging fire of life”
This is reflective of my 08.21.2015 post titled ‘The Golden Age,’ which honors today’s youth for their integrity and their cleaning up of previous messes made. They are trailblazers.
“He’ll take back what he owns”
This, to me, represents God’s ownership of the earth; Christ’s grace to all people; or political leaders taking back their governed lands, removing power in the hands of the destructive. The political side of this is reflected in my 09.18.2015 Prayer to Passage post titled ‘High Fidelity Definition’.
“Death cannot take hold, if I can keep momentum”
This brings me to my first Prayer to Passage post on 07.27.2015 titled ‘The Biggest Audience,’ in which I write of a calling from God for me to play a part in the possibility of reincarnation.
“Fortresses of stone turn into crystal tears”
This immediately brought to mind Fort Knox, earthly riches, and The Federal Reserve. Additionally, research I have done on what is referred to as “the crystal era,” finds that we as humanity now are living in that era. Children with crystal auras are being born in this decade. These children are characterized as being very sensitive, also as being Christ-like healers of the earth. They are here to instigate positive change for the world. They are wise beyond their years. I posted a Prayer to Passage on 08.01.2015 titled ‘Follow Your Bliss,’ referring to aura colors and the gifts of authenticity that each person brings to the world.
“Soothed by southern winds; I know my strength now
And nobody knows, and we must keep their secret”
This brought me to yesterday’s Prayer to Passage, 10.04.2015, titled ‘Your Greatest Gift,’ which allowed me to discover that down here on earth, though my prayer and blogging sometimes feels like communication to the wind, it is my gift. It is not well known, and this is as it is meant to be for now.
