Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book “The Way of All Flesh” by Samuel Butler.

Today I pray, “Dear God, Since the brain is an efficiency tool, what part do You play in the mind and the emotions? Amen.”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to this passage:

“All progress is based upon a universal innate desire on the part of every organism to live beyond its income.”

I find this gleefully humorous. I am inspired toward a hunch, which comes through intuition. This intuition is that I am not meant to know everything all at once. My calling is a natural one. And God has an endlessly fantastic sense of humor — in addition to a loving wink.

This passage comes to me in a trio of playfulness. The first is that the living beyond income is a living of life that is deeper than wealth, wiser than wealth, and a more evolved soul than a wealthy body. There is a subconscious level innate within us all that desires life to mean more than money. There is a desire to live a life of fullness and wellbeing and joy and freedom. To desire the free moments — think of a few of those free moments to get you started. They might involve family, loved ones, and nature.

The second discernment of this passage is in looking at the word “income” as in the information coming in to our minds — some call it brainwashing. Every one of us desires a life beyond brainwashing, and God is winking our way to let us know that God is certainly in on all of that. God knows every secret of every formation of human brainwashing and mind control. God sees and knows EVERYTHING. Do not be fooled (God directs this warning to the “brainwashers”). The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words to express.

The third and equally important aspect discerned of today’s passage is the idea of expansion and evolution, which also exists in us all. There is an innate desire within us to transform, take shape, expand, and evolve. And the astonishingly ever-increasing heart of this evolution is LOVE. The mind works in direct conjunction with the heart. The heart desires, and every desire in true love creates true freedom. You can live beyond your income, too. Yes, you. God is winking at you, and you use your brain — so you know what God is winking at.
