CHILDREN EXPLAINING THINGS

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint Exupery.

Today I pray, “Dear God, My three-year-old nephew said to me last month, WE should fly! He invented the notion when he spoke it into being. We should fly like the airplane and the red-winged blackbird! Like attracts like. And Light attracts Light. Thank You for this creation. Amen.”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to this passage:

“Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.”
—ANTOINE DE SAINT EXUPERY

This is true. I am a stand for the light entering in. The children being born are our teachers. And there is so much goodness to come of this that I dance in delight. They look through us, not at us. And they are not aware that they are anything other than anything other than anything other than breast milk. They recognize breast milk. With our language, I would say that they are the joy of survival and love. And light, unaware that their hands can hold anything, much less a planet. And when they are born and grasp in their hands our finger or our thumb, it is as if to say, “This stubby thumb is attached to one of the hands in the charge of molding me, as I am clay. I will mold you more than you will mold me. And that’s our little secret.”
