UNFOLDING INTO HAPPY

Today’s Prayer to Passage will be from the book ‘The Desiderata of Happiness’ by Max Ehrmann.

Today I pray, “Dear God, Happiness feels different than I thought it was supposed to feel. It is not a hopped-up-on-sugar, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Magical-Mystery-Tour feeling. It is a simple contentedness and faith. Growing into this, I guess I can call myself a baby happy person. What will I want to come back to this moment and say to myself years from now, having grown into the knowingness of true happiness?”

Following my prayer, I held the closed book in my hands and opened it to this passage:

“You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it.”
—MAX EHRMANN

It is certainly difficult for me to see how I have a right to be here, much less feel it. Yet this is only because I am working to balance my life right now. The contentedness and faith is a blessing of timing. Because I don’t have time to pursue happiness at this time. So happiness simply… showed up. Funny how that works out. I will look back on this time and see that, yes, I have a right to be here. And from here on, I will pay more attention to the unfolding of the Universe.
