Today’s Prayer to Passage is from ‘The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment’ by Eckart Tolle. This book, which I also utilized yesterday, is truly one of God’s gifts.
Today I pray, “Dear God, it is now nearing the end of August. Summer will be drawing to a close in a few weeks. Living in a beautiful part of the world with four seasons, I admire the varying glory shown throughout Your creation. But what of the frozen days looming? Minnesota winters can be terribly long. I’m not ready for another one. Any words on the topic of Back to Bitter Cold season? And yes, I realize it’s only August. It seems absolutely ridiculous to already be dreading December.”
.
“Nothing has happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.”
—ECKART TOLLE
See, this is what I need to be reminded of. This is the moment. These are the people. As it is and as they are, now. The past was the moment when it happened. When it happened, it was not the past, it was the present. Now is what I had, what I have, and what I will have.
I put my past into my future. I have this tendency to base what has not even happened yet on my previous experiences. We do this. The theme of putting our past into our future can span all areas of life. What we can know is that a hurtful experience that happened then does not mean it is destined to be repeated unless we allow that to be created. We are creators.
I cannot control the seasons or the weather, but I can control my attitude about the seasons and the weather. I cannot change the past, but I can create my present. And in my future, I can create what will then be my present. Like attracts like. What we plant today we will harvest tomorrow. And every day is an opportunity to create anew. My favorite season.
